My 3 Favorite Resources for Bible Study

Over the years, I have used a lot of different resources for studying the Bible. In this blog post, I'm going to share with you my three favorite resources for diving deep into the Bible. We'll start with an inexpensive option and move on to one that will require a fairly significant investment.

Here are my 3 favorite resources for Bible study.

    1) Background Commentaries

The IVP Background Commentaries on the Old and New Testaments are a great resource for quickly learning something about the historical background for many of the verses in the Bible. You can usually find used copies of these books for around $20 a piece.

There’s no way around it. Reading a good commentary on books of the Bible is a great way to dive deep into the text you are studying. Bestcommentaries.com provides reviews and recommendations for all sorts of commentaries. It’s the best place to start if you are looking to go deeper on a book of the Bible. Here are a few recommendations:

Rather than buying a whole set at one time, it is best to buy individual commentaries as you study through a particular book of the Bible. You can also save a lot of money by purchasing used copies of commentaries.

    3) Bible Study Software

I have used the Logos Bible Software for over a decade. It’s a more expensive option that you should save up for and do your own research before purchasing, but having a good Bible software can help you dig really deep into the Bible. Accordance Bible Software is great too. It is designed more for the person who wants to do research on the Bible.

Since these are more expensive options, you should only purchase one if you are very serious about studying the Bible and do so frequently.
